Seattle Poetry Slam presents: A Writing Workshop with Patricia Smith
Seattle Poetry Slam is thrilled to welcome Patricia Smith to Seattle as our 2009 Grand Slam Featured Poet on Sunday, April 26th. Earlier that day, from 11:30am-1:30pm, she will facilitate an all-ages (13 and above) writing workshop at the Youngstown Cultural Arts Center.
Patricia Smith, award winning author, journalist and legend in the realm of poetry slam. A 2008 National Book Award Finalist for Blood Dazzler, Patricia is also the author of Teahouse of the Almighty (Coffee House Press), a National Poetry Series winner, and a 2007 Hurston/Wright Legacy Award and Paterson Poetry Prize winner; Close to Death (Zoland Books), Big Towns, Big Talk (Zoland) and Life According to Motown (Tia Chucha). Her poems have appeared in numerous journals and in many groundbreaking anthologies--most recently Gathering Ground, The Spoken Word Revolution, The Oxford Anthology of African-American Poetry and is featured in Pushcart Prize XXXII: Best of the Small Presses.
Patricia is a formidable force onstage as well as in print: a four-time National Poetry Slam Champion, the most successful competitor in slam history. She was featured in the nationally-released film‚ Slamnation, and appeared on the award-winning HBO series, Def Poetry Jam.
