Well
In this "solo play with other people," performance artist Lisa Kron is writing about her mother, a civil rights activist who struggled with a lifelong illness. To aid in her theatrical exploration, she has hired four actors: a black woman, a black man, a white woman and a white man. Through the magic of theater, she has also transported her mother, Ann Kron, onstage to help illustrate her own story. But her mother isn't as easy to control as her actors, and even worse, has her own ideas about this story.
Vignettes about Lisa's experience in a racially integrated neighborhood and in a clinic for severely allergic people, plus the mixed affection and exasperation between Lisa and her mother, together paint a complex and compelling picture of health, illness, and the real meaning of integration.
