Living Room. Dark
Written by Leah Jane Esau
Synopsis: This fictional work follows a family and community on the eve of tragedy. Mary, a young mother, feels invisible. She struggles with mental illness made more severe by her leave of absence from work. After a car accident left her crippled, Mary becomes addicted to her medication, and is haunted by her duties as a mother, and by the house in which she feels confined. She and her husband, Howard, are pushed over the edge by a bitter custody battle.
Simultaneous to the action in the house, we see the Quebecois neighbours, gossiping away, trivializing and speculating on what's really going on in the house across the street. Rumour becomes truth, facts are distorted, and the question of how much do we REALLY care about the latest sensationalist report in the news is brought to the fore-front.
