Webinar: AIA Orange County Lunch Hour Program

Lessons in Socially Responsible Design, Paint Technology and LEED Requirements for a Sustainable Future

Presented By Dunn-Edwards Paints

Course Description:
Sustainable design and green practices have raised consumer awareness about the potential dangers lurking in buildings and homes from products such as paints and coatings. Environmental sustainability has influenced architects and interior designers to approach their projects in ways that boost health, lower consumption of nonrenewable resources, and minimize waste. This course looks at the evolution of sustainable design, ways to measure the environmental impact of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), how paints and coatings can contribute toward satisfying LEED® credits, and how these products may play a role in designing for well-being.

Learning Objectives:

1.Review Socially Responsible Design and Sustainable Design and how making informed choices can lower carbon footprint.

2.Review EPA Requirements, Paint, and VOCs. Not all paints are created equally and this section sheds light on harmful chemicals and more eco-friendly alternatives.

3.Review LEED and LEED v4.1. Review Paint and LEED. This section will help to learn all the ways a LEED credit can be achieved via the use of zero VOC paints as well as paints that are created with little to no emissions.

4.Design Wellbeing Trends and how to incorporate them into various spaces. This section also touches on the impact these trends can have on the end-user.
