Eichler Homes Tour
Join AIAOC for a walking tour of the Eichler homes in Orange, CA.
Eichler is a name deeply associated with mid-century modern architecture. Joseph Eichler, a real estate developer, played a pivotal role in popularizing this style of housing, renowned for their clean lines, open floor plans, large windows, and seamless indoor-outdoor living spaces, and sustainable living environments. Eichler neighborhoods often feature similar design elements, including flat or low-sloping roofs, post-and-beam construction, and an emphasis on natural materials like wood and stone.
Learning Objectives: 1. Attendees will explore the principles of sustainability and efficiency inherent in an Eichler design, including passive heating and natural cooling techniques for a healthy living environment.
2.Attendees will analyze the use of materials and design elements in Eichler homes including natural light, exposed post and beam construction, floor to ceiling glass, and indoor-outdoor flow for a healthy living environment.
3.Attendees will apply insights gained from the tour to broader discussions about the integration of nature and lifestyle preferences in todays home design for healthier living environments.
4.Attendees will consider the challenges and opportunities associated with preserving and renovating Eichler homes for a reduced carbon footprint while respecting their architectural integrity.
