GUIDO GIRL ASCENDING
From Tar Beach in the 70s and beyond, Guido Girl Ascending is a serio-comic solo play about an Italian-American girl's dream to get the hell out of the Bronx and the wild New York ride that ensues.
MARIANNE FERRARI (AEA, playwright, performer) has appeared in over sixty theatrical productions in NY, LA and regionally including three seasons at the Williamstown Theatre Festival as well as the Edinburgh Festival, U.K. Some highlights: Angie in Breaking Legs at the Pasadena Playhouse, Annette in God of Carnage at Theater By The Sea, Lucille in the American Clock directed by Austin Pendleton with Arthur Miller in residence at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, Dockdaisy in the Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui also at Williamstown, Janet in Italian-American Reconciliation at the Zephyr Theatre, Mrs. Cheveley in An Ideal Husband at the Met Theatre, Marta in Company at the Little Theater, Off Broadway. Earlier iterations of Guido Girl Ascending have been workshopped in NY and LA. A plan for a screenplay adaptation Guido Girl Ascending is slated for this summer. She made her film directorial debut with La Thespian, a short film written by her partner in all things life, love and art, Christopher D. White. MICHAEL MAROTTA (SDC, Director) is delighted to join the ranks of the New Circle Theatre. No stranger to one woman shows, hes directed several productions of I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti! and Wits End, the Erma Bombeck Story. Recent directing credits include Rodgers & Harts Beguiled Again, An Inspector Calls and A Grand Night for Singing! at Florida Rep. As an actor, Michael was featured in the Off Broadway hit and NY Times Critics Pick, Romeo & Bernadette. Hes spent the last several years performing all the male roles in Tenderly: The Rosemary Clooney Musical (Cincinnati Playhouse, Tennessee Shakes, Northcoast Rep, Ivoryton Playhouse, Florida Rep., Hilton Head). Other notable credits include TVs The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and leading roles at The MUNY and STAGES, St. Louis, Harbor Lights Theatre, Signature Theater, NYC, in addition to concerts at Carnegie Hall and Cincinnati Pops. A NYC native, Michael is twice the recipient of both the MAC Award and BACKSTAGE Bistro Award. AEA, SDC.
NEW CIRCLE THEATRE COMPANY (NCTC) traces its lineage back to the Circle Repertory Company and the Circle Rep Lab. When Circle Rep closed its doors in 1996, Michael Warren Powell, the Lab's long-time Artistic Director, started a new company with the aim of continuing the work of Circle. Michael, along with many of the Circle family, founded the Lab Theater Company which eventually became Circle East. Michael continued his inspirational leadership of the company until his death in July 2016. New Circle Theatre Company was established to carry on this legacy.
