Mosaic Dance Theater Company and The Temple of Jehan present "Tradition, Myth and Fantasy"
Mosaic Dance Theater Companys program features exciting new choreographies by Samara, a Folkloric Dance of Upper Egypt and a contemporary, interpretive Middle Eastern dance, a dance/story theater adaptation of an Arabian Nights tale, Ubar, The Lost City of Brass, adapted and directed by Morgiana Celeste Varricchio, and Mystique et Spirituelle, originally choreographed by the late Ibrahim Farrah for his world-renowned Near East Dance Group and re-staged for MDTC by Phaedra. The performers in the company are: Samara, Morgiana Celeste Varricchio, Adriana Rosa, Nina Brewton, Nahoko Sugiyama, and Romy Zamora, with Ayana Alexis, Najla Nikole, Derya Samawi, Audrey Werner and Special Guest Artists Phaedra and Mish Mish Bint Amira. Ancient and futuristic visions of choreographer /composer Jehan. pioneer of theatrical bellydance hope to inspire a deeper understandng of what motivates us to dance at all costs. Original music and collaboration wiith many amazing talents have brought forth all new choreographies which are infused with the passion, mystery and exoticism which is the allure of the East. Ancient mythologies of Pharaonic Egypt, fantastical creatures of Persia, magick rituals, goddess initiations of Medieval Europe and personal dramatic journeys through darkness and light are explored as Jehan "like a modern day Sheherazade" weaves her spell with a rich vocabulary of movement executed skillfully by a beautiful cast.
