Club d'Elf - Vadalna Dance Troupe - NEIA Cyberarts Interactive Performance
Interactive Performance to be held at Somerville Arts in the Armory
New England Institute of Art Web Design and Interactive Media (WDIM) students will be collaborating with renowned Boston band Club d'Elf and the Vidalna Tribal Dance Troupe in a mixed media performance on Friday April 24 at the Somerville Arts in the Armory.
Club d'Elf, led by Mike Rivard, and members of the Vadalna Tribal Dance Co. led by Shakti Rowan will be collaborating with visual artists, programmers, animators and interactive designers from the Art Institute to create real time interaction between the performers and an arsenal of digital technology.
In addition to Rivard on bass and sintir, Club d'Elf will feature special guest DJ Mister Rourke, Dave Tronzo on slide guitar, Dean Johnston on drums.
Vadalna Tribal Dance Co. creates a fusion of style ranging from Classical Egyptian cabaret to tribal belly dance with a splash of hip hop.
The Art Institute students are part of the school's Interactive Performance class which was created and is taught by faculty member and composer Chris Florio. Students of this class have collaborated previously with the Metrowest Symphony Orchestra and given performances at the Puppet Showcase Theatre in Brookline. The performance at the Armory will feature a live surround sound mix created by a team of Art Institute audio students led by assistant chair David Lefkowitz.
The performance will take place on April 24th at 7:30pm at Arts in the Armory 191 Highland Avenue, Somerville, MA (artsatthearmory.org). Tickets are $7 and free with a student ID. For more information visit:
