KINDERLACH & PRAYING IN HER OWN VOICE ( double feature)
Director: Liat Mer 52 min. David Freda, a young Orthodox-Jewish music producer dreamed of conquering the world of Hassidic vocal music. The film documents his 2 year journey founding the boys singing group Kinderlach. Freda and his partner Yishai Lapidot gathered seven boys from Yeshivas all over Israel and trained them to perform as singers and dancers on Israeli and international stages. The film is filled with music and portrays the difficulties in raising awareness of the group in Orthodox as well as secular communities. This powerful film documents the courageous struggle of the famed Women of the Wall movement. This group has spearheaded the battle for female equality in the Jewish religious world. Their main focus has been on the Western Wall- the holiest site for Jews where women are forbidden to gather for public prayer. For two decades they have challenged the government of Israel and the entire Jewish world by raising awareness of this practice through colorful protests and by their unstoppable legal battle at the Israeli Supreme Court. Post film discussion with Rabbi Susan Talve, Central Reform Congregation.
