Small Tool and Equipment Maintenance Workshop
Join us for an in-person workshop on Small Tool and Equipment Maintenance with Ryan Lichttenegger of Steel Wheel Farm on Saturday, May 4 from 9am -12pm.
This workshop is tailored specifically to the needs of vegetable farmers. Each tool and machine should be meticulously inspected, cleaned, and serviced yearly before it is put to use. Learn how to ensure that the tools and equipment crucial to your vegetable farming operation are always in prime condition for the season ahead. From handheld implements like hoes, trowels, and pruners to larger machinery such as mowers, tractors, cultivators, and irrigation systems, this workshop is equipped to handle basic maintenance and repairs for a wide range of agricultural equipment. There will be designated areas for different types of tools and equipment commonly used in vegetable farming. Participants will leave with an understanding of the unique requirements of vegetable farming equipment/tools and how to care for them. We are not certified technicians experienced in diagnosing and resolving all issues, but we can help with the basics! We all value and understand the importance of minimizing downtime and ensuring that our farming operations remain on schedule. Safety is paramount in our workshop, and we adhere to strict safety PPE to protect attendees and your equipment. We will also offer advice on proper maintenance practices and equipment care to help you optimize performance and prolong the lifespan of your tools and machinery. Participants are invited to bring a small tool in need of sharpening if you would like to work on it with guidance. Whether you're a small-scale organic farmer or a home gardener, our workshop is your reliable partner in keeping your equipment in peak condition. Trust us to keep your tools sharp, your machinery running smoothly, and your vegetable farming operation thriving season after season.
Coffee, tea and a light morning snack will be provided beginning at 9am; workshop starts at 9:15am. Masks are not required, but those who would like to wear a mask are welcome to do so.
There is a suggested donation of $20 for SnoValley Tilth members and $35 for non-members, to be paid at registration. Each individual participant must register for this event.
