Spring 2024: "LOVE" by William Payn
The Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale will perform "LOVE" for its Virginia premiere. The Chorale participated in a consortium that commissioned Dr. William Payn to compose this new work. Dr. Payn is the director and conductor of Susquehanna Valley Chorale and Orchestra, which performed "LOVE" for its national premiere in 2022. He recently retired from his position as Professor of Music at Bucknell University, where he taught and directed the Rooke Chapel Choir, Rooke Chapel Ringers, and Bucknell Concert Chorale. A composer of works for chorus and handbells, he remains active as a guest conductor and clinician nationwide and abroad.
"LOVE" highlights lyrics from poems by such notables as Emily Dickinson, e e cummings, Langston Hughes, and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, as well as works by several living poets. The ten-movement work is scored for chorus, soprano and baritone soloists, and string orchestra.
Ryan Tibbetts will conduct the singers and orchestra. Please plan to attend and enjoy this Virginia premiere with your entire family!
