ZNCD: AIA Orange County Lunch Hour Webinar: Rethinking Net-Zero: Designing for Energy Balance in Architecture
ZNCD: AIA Orange County Lunch Hour Webinar: Rethinking Net-Zero: Designing for Energy Balance in Architecture Presented by: CEDA & Willdan
Course Description
For over two decades, architects have championed the concept of 'net-zero' in sustainable design. However, with the rapid growth of renewable energy sources like solar and wind, the grid's dynamics have evolved. As we approach 2030, it's time to question if net-zero is still the ideal goal or if a more nuanced approach is needed. The grid's challenge lies in maintaining a delicate balance between energy generation and consumption, requiring adjustments to match demand. This session explores how buildings can play a pivotal role in this equilibrium, offering insights into building-grid interactions and redefining energy goals for the future. Architecture serves as a catalyst for innovation in energy efficiency and sustainability, offering solutions that not only reduce energy consumption but also contribute to the resilience and adaptability of our future energy infrastructure. By embracing a holistic approach to design and planning, architects can drive meaningful change in shaping a more sustainable and equitable energy future.
Learning objectives:
Understand the evolution of renewable energy sources and their impact on the energy grid.
Evaluate the effectiveness of the 'net-zero' concept in contemporary architectural design.
Explore the pivotal role of architecture in reshaping energy infrastructure and advancing sustainability goals.
Develop strategies to integrate building-grid interactions for optimizing energy efficiency and resilience.
