St Catherine's PTA Lecture 2024 - Fin O'Regan
The Senior School PTA is pleased to welcome Prep and Senior parents to a talk by author Fin O'Regan.
This presentation will consider the hidden differences of neurodiversity and neurodivergence which are often overlooked, ignored and misunderstood in terms of Equality, Inclusion and Discrimination.
As in all forms of diversity there is no place for social exclusion or bullying of Neurodiverse individuals and therefore it is imperative that the principles of, tolerance, kindness, care and consideration should be applied to all individuals.
We will clearly outline how parents working in partnership with schools can successfully support all students learning, behaviour and socialisation objectives to promote and wellbeing and happiness for all.
Areas to be covered The impact of social exclusion on the individual, the family and the school community Demystifying key Neurodivergent terms including ADHD, ASC and SpLD Understanding Executive Functioning in terms of supporting learning and behaviour Structure and Flexibility both at home and at school in supporting specific ND traits Supporting a range of issues including homework, organisation, screen time and study skills Effective communication and dealing with distraction, inflexibility, impulsivity and frustration Relationships in socialisation issues and developing positive peer to peer interaction Resilience in terms of transition points and happiness and wellbeing
Fin ORegan MA Fin is one of the leading behaviour and learning specialists in the UK. He is currently an ADHD and Neurodiversity Consultant for number of schools and organisations, an associate lecturer for Leicester University, NASEN, The Helen Arkell Charity and the Institute of Education. He is a current member of the Special Education Consortium, the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee, and The CDC London, is a council member of CReSTeD and on the advisory board of the University of Michigan, USA. Fin is an internationally acclaimed presenter has presented over 2500 seminars throughout Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, Australia, New Zealand and North America and has published 12 books on the subject of ND/ADHD, learning, behaviour and socialisation issues.
