R.U. R. Cabaret "Rossum's Universal Robots"
R.U.R. is a 1920 science-fiction play by the Czech writer Karel Capek, "R.U.R." stands for "Rossum's Universal Robots". The play had its world premiere on January 2nd, 1921 in the Czech Republic. It introduced the word "robot' to the English language and to science fiction as a whole. R.U. R. became influential soon after its publication. By 1923 it had been translated into 30 languages. R.U.R was successful in Europe and North America. The play is about a factory that was created to make robot workers from synthetic organic matter, living creatures of artificial flesh and blood. Very forward-thinking for its time since later plays used metal robots. Robots may be mistaken for humans but have no original thoughts, most are content to work for humans. (like the ones you see at Tesla and the Amazon warehouse today) You won't want to miss this new production of R. U. R. A very accomplished cast of top-notch singers and actors will bring this first-time-ever performed musical production to life. Twenty-two new original songs. To be performed at Pasadena's wonderful Portico Art Space. Thurs. May 30th, 7:30, Sat. June, 1st, 3 and 8 and Sun. June 2nd, 3 pm. See you there!
