Artworks Alliance Gathering March 2024
At the ArtWorks Alliance members' online gathering on 19th March 2024, the focus will be on the development of the network as a community of practice (CoP). The discussion will centre on the principles that inform and drive communities of practice, including knowledge exchange, collective learning, mutual engagement, and the creation of a shared stock of resources. Participants will delve into how these principles can foster cultural democracy, social cohesion, empowerment, and social justice through participatory arts. The session aims to foster an exchanging of ideas and experiences on sustaining and enhancing the CoP model for long-term impact in the participatory arts sector.
A Community of Practice (CoP) is a group of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better through regular interaction. In its community development work, as a members run network, ArtWorks Alliance tries to exemplify this concept, as we evolve through the interests of our members, who are practitioners and advocates of participatory arts. Alliance members recognise the developmental nature of our activities. Through this shared vision, the alliance shapes itself as a growing community, dedicated to the advancement and advocacy of participatory arts.
The discussion topic is Artworks Alliance as a Self-Organising Community of Practice for People Who:
Are actively involved in using creativity to achieve positive social change and believe in the transformative power of creative processes.
Want to share experiences, ideas, opportunities and understanding of the power of creativity in effecting positive change in social and community settings.
Recognise the dual importance of artistic and social aspirations and are committed to sustaining and developing both their own part in this practice, and the sector, in a spirit of mutual support.
Recognise we are experiencing an environmental and ecological crisis and are interested in being part of a collective effort to limit further damage, addressing the causes and impact of climate breakdown.
