In many if not most cases, lyrics to Yiddish songs of the late-19th and early-20th centuries were based on if not expressly written by the greatest Yiddish poets and writers of the time, people like Itzik Manger, Sholom Aleichem, Mark Warshavsky, and Mordkhe Gebirtig. Hankus Netsky, one of the leading figures of the klezmer revival and the contemporary Yiddish music scene, will demonstrate how their skills and poetic fluency provided much of the words for Yiddish folk, theatre, and art song. _____________________________________________________________
