Love Lost Diaries
Julie Holland directs the area debut of this short play by Marc Considine of Hardwick, Vermont, opening Guilford Center Stage's 2024 two-production season featuring work by Vermont playwrights.
Considine is a teacher at Hazen Union High School in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, and coach of their ambitious after-school drama program. This play was written for his students to perform at a high school drama festival 15 years ago. This will be the first performance by another theater group, continuing Guilford Center Stage's mission to present works by playwrights, past and present, from our area and other towns in Vermont.
A company of eight area actors will perform the play in Guilford. As befits a play written originally for high school students, featured characters in the work are three high schoolers who have an interesting pastime: They watch for houses where the owners have died, and break in looking for possible valuables. As the play opens, they have entered a house where they are initially disappointed that the only thing of interest is diaries chronicling the life of the couple who lived there. They start to read the journals, and are gradually drawn into the story, which we also witness.
Director Julie Holland, of Guilford, will be familiar for her on-stage appearances in most of the past Guilford productions. Don McLean is producer.
The venue, Broad Brook Community Center, renovated and re-opened in 2022, is now fully ADA-accessible, with designated parking, accessible restrooms and an elevator to the theater space on the second floor.
And note that although there is a fixed admission price, no one will be turned away based on ability to pay. We also have opportunities for ushers and other helpers at the shows who may then gain free admission.
Guilford Center Stage was founded in 2015 to make use of the only theater space in Guilford, a charming stage in the 1896 former grange hall. This will be the group's 12th production.
