About this Course
This program will provide guidance on how a design professional can navigate the confusion of intellectual property laws, including especially, how to use IP rights, and how to avoid IP liability.
Learning Objectives: 1. Attendees will discuss what creations can be the subject of copyright protection. 2. Attendees will learn the difference between copyright law and patent law. 3. Attendees will understand a working definition of a trade secret. 4. Attendees will learn how to use the Lanham Act

Presenters:
Michael J. Murtaugh received his undergraduate degree from the University of Cincinnati (BA, with honors, 1970) and his law degree from the UCLA School of Law (JD, 1973), where he represented the school in the National Moot Court competition and was elected to the Order of the Barristers. His practice focuses on the counseling and representation of design professionals, employment counseling and general civil litigation; and he has received Martindale Hubbells highest AV Preeminent rating for ethics and competence.
Michelle R. Generaux received her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame (BA, 1993) and law degree from the William Mitchell College of Law (JD, 1996), and her practice focuses is on the representation of privately held businesses, with an emphasis on architectural and engineering firms. She has extensive experience in entity selection and formation, contract drafting and negotiation, ownership transitions and mergers and acquisitions. She also practices in the areas of probate and trust administration.
