What Can Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Do For Me? -- Dr. Herb Kandel
During this two hour workshop you will learn about the rich history and current clinical applications of acupuncture and Chinese medicine. You will also have an opportunity to learn self-help techniques including self acupressure and simple Chinese exercises (qi gong), and simple over-the-counter herbal remedies. Acupuncture is a system of complementary medicine that involves pricking the skin or tissues with needles, used to alleviate pain and to treat various physical, mental, and emotional conditions. Originating in ancient China, acupuncture is now widely practiced in the West Hopefully you will leave with an understanding of the history and current science of how acupuncture works; what conditions acupuncture treats effectively; and which self-help tools you can use for your health and wellness. Dr. Herb Kandel, L.Ac., O.M.D. is a local health care provider and long standing community leader. Dr. Kandel earned a bachelor's degree in cultural anthropology from UCSB, and completed his master's degree and doctoral dissertation in Traditional Chinese Medicine after studies in California. Dr. Kandel was also the first American to study at the prestigious Xi Yuan Hospital, in Bejing, China. He is a State Licensed Acupuncturist and owner of the Acupuncture Center of Santa Maria. He has been in private practice and taught classes on acupuncture, Chinese medicine, and Qi Gong exercises for 25 years.
