IBA, through its cultural branch Villa Victoria Center for the Arts is pleased to present the Boston premiere of R-Tronika. Founded in 2004, R-Tronika is a New York based music project that combines diverse music genres as electro, cumbia, punk, reggae, rock, creating a unique sound that reflects the multicultural background of the band's members and the city they thrive in. The songs, sung in Spanish and English, are inspired by the people and streets of New York City and embody the notion of music without borders.
R-Tronika has performed in a variety of venues and festivals in New York City, Chicago and Philadelphia, Texas and also Mexico, Lima-Perú and Berlin. From D.I.Y. spaces and punk festivals to Museums and Art Galleries. The band's concerts have been described as explosive and charismatic.
The band's recent album Sonido Atómico was produced by the band's lead singer and keyboard player Renzo Ortega at R-Tronika's headquarters in the historic Music Building near Times Square. "It is the result of almost two years of sound experimentation and music research. We used different recording techniques in the new album's nine tracks," said Ortega, who is also an accomplished visual artist. R-Tronika's "Sonido Atómico" follows 2010 Vinyl called EP and 2009s full-length Apple Pie.
