Suddenly in Command!
THE COURSE This three-hour boating safety workshop is designed for those who enjoy boating but who may not feel fully competent and ready to step in and take over if something were to happen to the skipper. We'll go over how to take over the helm, call for help, recover a person in the water, handle emergency docking and other essential skills. Accident prevention tips and emergency preparedness strategies and supplies will be covered, as well. We encourage skippers to come along with their crew members - whether that is their spouse, fishing buddy or family members (ages 10+). Your instructors are experienced boaters and members of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
A TRADITION For nearly 15 years, the Olympia Yacht Club has been offering classes for our members and other local boaters. The 2024 series of safety and education courses will be conducted in person at the OYC clubhouse in Olympia. One of our foundational principles is to encourage the science of good seamanship and navigation and thus we are opening these classes to any boater wishing to learn more on these topics.
REGISTER EARLY Space is limited, so register early!
