Manhattan-to-Williamsburg Homebrew Tour
Despite New York's gnat-size apartments, NYC homebrewers refuse to let space limitations detract them from their mission: crafting some of the city's tastiest beer. On this tour, you'll meet three of the city's finest amateur (and pro!) brewers, who will display their set-ups, discuss their craft and, most importantly, open up their stash of superlative beer.
Today's tour is going to be really fun. We're going to start in Stuyvesant Town with Hayley Jensen and Stephen Durley (you might know them from Taproom No. 307). The award-winning homebrewers will be offering up a witbier spiced with lemon and rosemary, caramel apple cider aged with French oak and hopefully a bière de garde. Next, we're strolling down to the Lower East Side to meet Jeremy Vallimont, who will be pouring a maibock, espresso stout and a few other surprises. Lastly, we're heading across the East River to Williamsburg, where Mary Izett will be pouring an assortment of funky, boozy fermentations (mead, cider, beer and more!) that she's perfecting for her new book.
Eat a big lunch. There will be many, many liquids on hand. Your guide is NYC beer journalist Joshua M. Bernstein, the author of The Complete Beer Course.
