Jamie Stewart (of Xiu Xiu), Nurses, Dragging an Ox Through Water
It has been over five years since Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu toured solo, meanwhile playing shows across the globe, releasing six full-length LPs, five EPs, and ten seven-inches under Xiu Xiu. Yet every month, Stewart is asked when he will begin another solo tour. Those who are familiar with StewartÂs solo work or have heard rare live recordings know that this is Stewart at his rawest, exploding with sadness and weight.
Jamie Stewart will pull from over 80 songs for this tourÂs sets, as well as new material from Xiu XiuÂs upcoming release, ÂDear God, I Hate MyselfÂ, scheduled to be out in 2010. Many songs have never been heard live before or havenÂt been played in years. His recorded catalog, hand-decorated mix CDs and a poster series of StewartÂs stuffed animal collection will be available at the show.
StewartÂs arsenal for tour is sparse, with just electric guitar, bird call whistles, and a stylophone (a late 60s toy synth that one plays with a pen). As if this werenÂt intimate enough, there will be an accompanying photo project in which David Horvitz and Stewart will photograph a portrait of every single person at every single show. This means not only the audience, but the sound people, the promoter  everyone. All will be posted on Xiu XiuÂs blog (xiuxiu.org) and the best 300 will be published as a book. DonÂt worry about looking amazing  StewartÂs providing Xiu Xiu combs for last-minute hair-fixes.

Nurses
Band members Aaron Chapman and John Bowers originally hail from Idaho Falls, ID. After heading out west to Southern California with former band members, and even spending a short time in Chicago, the two longtime friends have since settled in Portland, OR in 2008.
Nurses released Hangin Nothin But Our Hands Down with help from Sargent House in March 2007. After the loss of some former band members, Chapman and Bowers began songwriting and recording as a duo. Much of these recordings make up their second full length release AppleÂs Acre, to be released in spring 2009. The second album shows a radical departure from older styles of songwriting, and dives more into a world of dreamy, experimental pop. James Mitchell (of Idioflux) has since joined the group on percussion in early 2008.

Dragging An Ox Through Water
"At times baffling, consistently visionary, this 12-inch is the definitive work of an as-yet-named genre wherein harsh noise and tender balladry are proven to be far more closely related than previously thought."
-Portland Mercury (Top Six Local Albums of 2008)
"Layering gorgeous acoustic picking beneath sheets of white noise, gurgling, off-center electronics, and crackling tape hiss, they don't bury his endearing, heart-tugging melodies as much as they enhance them."
- Willamette Week
