The Coot Elimination Committee
THE COOT ELIMINATION TCOMMITTEE by Bill Waxman comes The Plaza Theatre Playhouse in Carpinteria!
Well known actor/director / Bill Waxman has created a brand new theatrical work, THE COOT ELIMINATION COMMITEE, which will receive its West Coast Premiere, May 8-18, at the Plaza Playhouse Theater. Eighty year old Mike Ryan and seventy year old Martha Fletcher have set up housekeeping together in a retirement community. Mike, who has been in love with Martha all his life, has waited through her two marriages to finally have his long time dream come true. Martha, as Mike observes later in the play, is in the midst of her attempt to "have it all."
Mike enlists the aid of one of his aged neighbors to spy on Martha, never suspecting that this neighbor, Karl, is keeping dark secrets of his own. Meanwhile, the president of the HOA in the retirement home, Mary Beth, is recruiting Mike and Martha to be part of her Coot Elimination Committee, a plan she has to rid the retirement home like of the duck-like coots that breed there.
What ensues is both a poignant and often hilarious look at life in a community of active seniors.
Produced in association with DIJO Productions. its author and director Bill Waxman has had recent theatre roles in The New Jerusalem, The English Bride and the Exonerated, all at Center Stage Theatre in Santa Barbara,. His directing credits include Talley's Folly, No Exit (Elite Theatre in Oxnard, CA) and musical director for Spoon River Anthology.
