OUROBOROS with viv
Footloose continues its AIM: Artists in Motion residency series at KUNST-STOFF Arts in San Francisco's booming Central Market district at One Grove Street where Market and Hyde merge across from the Main Library and the Orpheum Theater near CIVIC CENTER BART.
The evening offers a concert of viv along with special guest choreographers, Ashley Trottier, Elizabeth Chitty and Esme Kundanis-Grow. OUROBOROS, vîv's first commission from La ALTERNATIVA, is a dance of constant change and a shedding of old ways. Fierce and intense movement choreographed by Kathleen Hermsdorf in collaboration with the dancers is set to a stunning sound score by Albert Mathias. The work is hypnotic, powerful and image laden. "Never before (have I seen) more than two people feel like one organism." says frequent dance-goer Lieva Whitbeck.
Kathleen describes the work: "8 women remember and disremember lifetimes of lifetimes, experienced experience, moments inside moments. They dismember, devouring themselves into a circulatory process of repetition, re-invention and raw skin. They eat paradox and re-create their prima materia." The symbol of the Ouroboros, a serpent eating its tail, directly connects to viv's mission to re-create the underlying conditions and working methods in dance.
The women of viv are: Roche Janken, Samantha Stone, Katie Griffin, Virginia Broyles, Alison Williams, Hallie Dalsimer and Alex Crow. Visit their website: www.withviv.com Kathleen Hermesdorf is the Artistic Director of La ALTERNATIVA. Her style has been called luscious, sensate and mercurial.
