Catch the Spirit!
Explore 375 years Roxbury's religious history. Founded by English Protestant Christians who sought religious freedom for themselves, Roxbury was enhanced by 19th c. Roman Catholic and European Protestant immigration, as well as the 20th c. movement of Jewish synagogues and Black churches and mosques. This trolley tour of Roxbury and its prominent religious institutions will visit St.CyprianÂs Episcopal Church and its remarkable Black history in stained glass, The First Church in Roxbury, Mission Church and its painting of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and the new Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center. Participants will also enjoy a soul food lunch at Daddy GraceÂs United House of Prayer (former Temple Mishkan Tefila). The tour will be led by State Representative Byron Rushing.
