Program Description

FLYNN COHEN & LIZ SIMMONS OF "ANNALIVIA"

Annalivia draws from tradition and today to create its own brand of new acoustic folk music. Annalivia  Liz Simmons on vocals and guitar and Flynn Cohen on vocals, mandolin and guitar are masterful players and singers, and have long histories with traditional music ranging from bluegrass to Irish, Scottish, and Old Time Appalachian music. This background, combined with their stellar compositional skills and cutting edge arranging chops, makes for music which sounds rooted yet contemporary. Folk and string-band enthusiasts alike will be drawn in by the expert vocals and songwriting, excellent musicianship, and innovative approach. Flynn and Liz have toured and performed with the likes of Ruth Moody, Cathie Ryan, John Whelan, Aoife Clancy and Adrienne Young, among others. www.annaliviamusic.com

Figures in the Dust

SpectorDance Company is honored to partner with the National Steinbeck Center to celebrate literary legend John Steinbeck and the 75th anniversary of one of his greatest works, The Grapes of Wrath.  Figures in the Dust is a creative interpretation of this timeless and timely novel.  Although the story takes place in the 1930's and describes the issues of the Dust Bowl Era and the Great Depression, themes

from this novel are relevant today.  Adversity stretches individuals physically, mentally, and spiritually. This impact creates a yearning to overcome obstacles, adapt, and survive.  Figures in the Dust blends spoken words from the novel, historic visuals from the Steinbeck Library, music, and movement to create this compelling, multidisciplinary work.

SPECTORDANCE YOUTH COMPANY

In their third season, SpectorDance Youth Company will perform several works from prestigious guest artists including Mads Eriksen from Ballet San Jose and Robert Dekkers, award winning bay area choreographer. The Youth Company will also perform a new work by Fran Spector Atkins with live music from Flynn Cohen and Liz Simmons, also known as Annalivia.  Come and see the next generation of dance on the Monterey Peninsula.

WINE AND FOOD

Throughout the evening enjoy wine by the glass, hors d'oeuvres, and decadent desserts by Selene. Proceeds will benefit SpectorDance.  Great food and wine for a great cause!

Join SpectorDance for this special evening of food, live music, dance, and a celebration of Steinbeck!
