Burns Night at The Rocky Mountain Folk Club
Burns Night is a Rocky Mountain Folk Club tradition! We'll start off with a set from the Calgary Burns Club Singers. They will sing a mix of songs by Robert Burns and other traditional songs of Scotland. The highlight of the group's performances was participation in the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 2009, on the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns' birth.
Bill Hawes will pipe in the haggis, and Jim Hutchens will perform the Address to the Haggis. Then a few more pipe tunes before we break for a serving of delicious haggis!
Our headliner, Gordon McCulloch, will take the stage for the rest of the evening. Gordon performed and wrote songs for many years with the Calgary-based group Seanachie. They released several CDs, including Telling Tales, A Quarrel with Whiskey and A Parting Cup. He writes, sings and plays with passion, yet also "It is his habit to sell his songwriting and singing abilities short, laughing all the while. (James Muretich, Calgary Herald)
