Jazz at The Green Room: Garrison Fewell & Jean-Marie Corrois Duo
Raised in Philadelphia, at the age of 11 Fewell began studying acoustic blues guitar, paying special attention to the music of old country blues artists such as Mississippi John Hurt, Mississippi Fred McDowell and Rev. Gary Davis. By 1967, he was performing professionally in the Philadelphia area with a repertoire that drew upon his transcriptions of Delta Blues guitarists and also featured his own compositions and improvised music. Following a 1972 tour of the Middle East and Pakistan, Fewell studied jazz guitar with Lenny Breau and Pat Martino, receiving a Bachelor of Music Degree in Guitar Performance from the Berklee College Of Music in Boston. Five years later, he returned to Berklee as Professor of Guitar. He formed his own jazz group in 1976 and also worked with front-rank artists such as Larry Coryell and Herbie Hancock.

The decades since have found him frequently working in Europe, taking part in the first Faculty Exchange Program between Berklee and the Netherland's Rotterdam Conservatory, and teaching and performing throughout Europe. Apart from the USA and Europe, Fewell has also performed in South America, Africa, the Caribbean and Canada.

Jean-Marie Corrois started his career in the city of Tours (France), playing with an African funk band and touring throughout France with a Brazilian band.  Already expert in these world rhythms, he moved to Paris in 1985 to attend the jazz school CIM.  He began playing jazz clubs and festivals while also doing session work and performing behind a variety of singers and instrumentalists

When he moved to Florida in 2000, he worked for Carnival Cruise Lines and with Bobby Ramirez's Latin Jazz band.  He moved to New England in 2004, and currently plays in jazz and world music contexts.

We're excited to hear what this pair of veteran musicians and world travelers have in store for us!
