For more than 700 years dervishes have remembered the passing of Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi in the ceremony of Shebi Arus, or wedding night. 750 years ago, on the night of December 17th 1273, the final bonds of separation dissolved and Hz. Mevlana entered into union with the divine Beloved. Mevlana Rumi's influence has continued through his masterwork the Masnavi, his mystical poetry and through all who love Mevlana.
In this evening's traditional Ottoman ceremony, dervishes turn in the flowing skirts, or tennures, which open like flowers in the sunlight. Come, for as Rumi says,there is a window from heart to heart. Let us join on this beautiful night in remembrance of Hz. Mevlana, and of the One source of all life, love, peace,harmony and beauty.
