Spring Skill Share and Plant Sale 2014
Join us for our 3rd annual Spring Skill Share and Plant Sale. We hope to bring together individuals with different levels of experience in gardening for a day of learning and connecting. We have three workshops scheduled for the spring Skill Share. You don't need to purchase tickets to attend the plant sale.

Plant Sale Our Spring Skill Share will also feature our plant sale. Choose from a wide variety of herbs, heirloom tomatoes and peppers, raspberries, strawberries, ornamentals, and more! A full list of plants will be posted on our website prior to the plant sale. All proceeds will help Beardsley provide healthy food for those in need in our community.
Activities will be provided for kids, too! Bring the whole family for this spring community event.
About the Farm: Beardsley Community Farm has promoted food security and sustainable urban agriculture through practice, education, and community outreach for 15 years. Workshop Schedule and Details
9:00 AM Light Refreshments and Tour of CAC Beardsley Community Farm
10:00 AM- VermiComposting with Rick Pinkerton
In this class, attendees will learn about VermiComposting or "Worm- Composting" from Master Gardener, Rick Pinkerton. Attendees will assemble small worm bins and brew some nutritious compost tea to take home!

12:00 PM Small Fruit Production with Alan Bruhin. Meet next door In Wesley House classroom.
Learn to grow your own small fruits! In this class, we will learn about best practices for small fruit production in East Tennessee including disease and pest control, pruning techniques, soil management and more. Attendees will take home their choice of a strawberry or raspberry plant.
Alan Bruhin serves as the Sevier County Extension Director, and has been with extension for the past 35 years. He started the Sevier County Master Gardener program 9 years ago. Alan Bruhin works with commercial and homeowner fruit production and nearly 100 certified Master Gardener volunteers.

2:00 PM More than Bee-ginners Luck with Philip Moore and Mackenzie Hodges
Bit by the beekeeping bug? Got honey fever? Are you a proud pollinator parent? This short course on beginning beekeeping will cover the basics of colony structure, equipment, costs, and methods for you to embark on the backyard beekeeping odyssey. The second half of the course will get your hands dirty with a colony inspection. Join UT graduate student in Entomology Philip Moore and former UT beekeeping lab assistant Mackenzie Hodges. Philip has been a University beekeeper for over three years, helps instruct the UT Bee Master course, and studies pollination ecology. Class limited to 20 people, sign up today to reserve your spot!
