Barbary Allen: An Appalachian Tragedy by Gay H. Hammond is based on an old folk song, the play explores the discovery of one self through Barbary who is caught between what she knows and what could be. Barbary Allen grew up in a small mountain town, and she surrounded by everything she has ever known. William MacTier is young man whose love for Barbary knows no bounds wants nothing more than to marry the person he has loved since childhood. Barbary is in the middle with questioning everything and then a boy from down mountain comes and unknowingly disrupts everything. The consequences come at a high cost.
