FURY Factory - "Aphasia" and "Port Out Starboard Home"
APHASIA is a sonorous and corporeal exploration of speech and the unspoken. This winding and poetic piece of physical theater pulls you inside worlds of hesitation and restraint, probing at what you can and cannot hear. The piece explores the politics of speech in everyday life, the social constraints around speech, and the world of unarticulated thoughts. These questions are subtly embedded in the body. They are juxtaposed by the reflective world of live and recorded sound. Utilizing original words, as well as bits and pieces from French feminist writer Helene Cixous The Writing Notebooks, the words of the piece both communicate, and get lost. Rather than relying on a linear narrative, the performance rests on the carefully shifting lines of sound, movement, and text. ~~~~PORT OUT STARBOARD HOME is a new collaboration between the foolsFURY ensemble, and red-hot NYC playwright Sheila Callaghan*. Port Out, Starboard Home is a theatrical spectacle set on a luxury cruise liner, where a mysterious and disturbing ritual occurs. The play digs into rich themes including: the fine line between luxury and decadence in contemporary American consumer culture, the relationship between public persona and private self that must be navigated in both the rarified space of the cruise vacation and in our daily lives, how we deal with others when thrown into temporary community with them.
