We are back at the Tenri Cultural Institute for 'Primal Chromaticity: Music-inspired and Inspiring Colors'.
Well be performing the official NY premiere of 'Radiance', by our 2022 8SW Composer Competition winner, Kyle Soliz. 'Radiance' is like looking through a kaleidoscope with your ears: an array of colors with undertones of jazz influenced harmonies.
We are always excited to present a new work by our first 8SW competition winner Jorge Amado. Written for us, 'Paseo de invierno' (Winter's walk) is a sultry journey, contemplative of the oncoming season, Havana style. We also have a new work by Péter Kszeghy: 'Moled' is visceral in emotion and steeped in ritual.
Claire Polin's 'Tower Sonata', was composed in 1960 for Polins mentor, the eminent flutist William Kincaid. The title refers to a historical practice from the European Middle Ages, of placing musicians atop watchtowers to mark the passage of time or sound an alarm. The work was originally conceived for woodwind trio, but Polin felt that any three equal instruments could perform it. We are excited to present our version this year.
The concert is rounded out with trios by CPE Bach and Albert Roussel. Both are works filled with chromaticity and chromaticism.
