Jujuba & Axe Dide
Jujuba is an 11-piece Afrobeat and Juju band featuring master talking drum player, Nojeem Lasisi. The powerful and melodic beat from Nojeem's drum catalyzes pure Afrofunk energy between Jujuba's horn, rhythm and percussion sections. Nasty lines and soulful solos blare from the four-piece horn section. Bass, keys, guitar and drum kit forge a funky backbone rhythm section. An explosive percussion section with flavors ranging from West Africa, Cuba and Brazil ignite the dance floor. The result: a sound that is irresistibly danceable.
Ax Did performs dynamic interpretations of dance and music based in Cuban and Brazilian sacred and secular dances. The existence of these traditions, passed down orally for hundreds of years, speaks to their complex and elemental nature, captivating audiences with movements as unique as the history of the people who bore them across oceans of tragedy. Taken literally, Ax Did means Rising Vital Energy. Ax Did performances give this art a fresh, uplifting and inspiring adaptation to the stage. Ax Did presents a variety of dances ranging from the intense gods of fire, metal and water to the fast, celebratory, sexy movements of Samba. The Energy put out in their music & dance is like their Name, Ax Did, vital life force rising up!
