Quills
Max & Louie Productions proudly present "Quills", a dark comedy by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Doug Wright.
"It now falls upon me, your chaperone through the dark waters of the soul, to impart a tale of such moral torpor that I can hardly bring my voice above a whisper. So come, perch upon my knee, so you don't miss a word." Marquis de Sade
This wickedly witty, erotically charged, Obie-Award winning play is about the conflict between the imprisoned Marquis de Sade (infamous, irreverent literary bad boy of 18th Century France) and the keepers entrusted with silencing the perverse tails that drip from his ink-laden quills.
This Saint Louis Premiere explores the delicate and often malleable line between morality and personal freedoms, while satirizing the hypocrisy and convenience of censorship and sexuality.
"Doug Wright's raffish new comedy, part theatre of the ridiculous, part comedy of manners and part Grand Guignol, successfully blends intentional archness, grotesque exaggeration and bold humor to create a theatrical experience of real wit." -The New York Times
"Cunningly structured and gorgeously written, with every phrase turned to a high, gleaming polish. Quills is a superb piece of writing." -The Village Voice
"Exuberant theater-making...the play has something to say about censorship and what happens when you try to suppress art...It's an amazing show." -Variety
