oaklanDrive 2009 Repertory Concert
In this time of economic and environmental disarray, when our basic sense of trust, confidence and security is wavering, art still has the power to buoy our spirits, express our deepest emotions, and transcend boundaries. Artistic Directors Jill Leversee and Marlo Martin of oaklanDrive Dance Company believe dance exists to be experienced only in the moment, shared by audience members and performers alike. Jill and Marlo will proudly present four original modern dance/theatre works from oaklanDrives 2009-2010 Season on April 16-17, 2009 at The Erikson Theatre in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle. Based in Seattle, WA and housed at eXit SPACE School of Dance, oaklanDrive is in its fourth season. The company boasts nine eclectic company members from across the country (MI, CA, NY, WA) and from various collegiate dance programs including Western Michigan University, University of Colorado, University of Washington, and Cornish College of the Arts. Company members for the 2008-2009 season include Karen Baskett, Stacy Brenner, Gabriel Bruya, Alexandra Goldstein, Mary Kirkpatrick, Kristen Legg, Christin Lusk, Michele ONeill, and Jennifer Smith.
Together, artistic directors Jill Leversee and Marlo Martin strive to integrate multiple disciplines of dance and theatre in order to create an exciting fusion of styles that appeal to a diverse set of audiences and artists. Originally from MI and CO Marlo and Jill bring a unique voice to the Seattle dance scene; their training on the east coast and in the mid-west has helped to influence their independent and fresh choreography.
At this performance, oaklanDrive will present four new works, with themes ranging from the humorous to heart wrenching. Audience members can expect to experience the beauty of the human form and spirit through fluid, articulate, and organic movements designed by Jill Leversee. As the evening continues, patrons will be transported via Marlo Martin's choreography into a crazed world of the ridiculous. Full of love and passion dancers move to intense beats while becoming literally attached to one another in Velcro. The concert culminates with a full length work displaying all nine company members in an epic telling of the absence of love, falling in love, discovering a love and love lost.
The goal of oaklanDrives directors is to present in one evening art has the power, in one image or one moment, to catch your breath or feel a kick in the gut. Jill and Marlo firmly believe art has the potential to deeply connect with all people and look forward to presenting their vision, their voice, and their perspective with a Seattle audience.
