OCB in partnership with the Barnard-Columbia Chamber Choir will present Rossini's The Barber of Seville, (Il barbiere di Siviglia), at The Glicker-Milstein Theater, a beautiful, state-of-the-art black box theater located on lower level 2 of the elegant, new Diana Center at Barnard College, 3009 Broadway, New York, (@ W119th Street). The production, conducted by Jay Meetze, features the Barnard-Columbia Choir, under the direction of Choirmaster Gail Archer. The performance features the Barnard String Quartet & piano.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES IVAN AMARO BASS BARITONE a native of Peru, critics have acclaimed Mr. Amaro for his vibrant voice and his exceptional communication of the characters he performs. He has many opera roles to his credit: Rigoletto, Germont, Don Carlo, Il Conte di Luna, Ferrando, Sulpice, Enrico, Dulcamara, Count Almaviva, Figaro and Bartolo (both from Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Le Nozze di Figaro), Don Magnifico, Bruschino Padre, Don Pasquale, Slook, Tobia Mill, Marcello, Benoit/Alcidoro, Tonio, Leporello, Papageno, Don Alfonso, Crespel, Elviro, Salieri, Chorazy, Mr. Gobineau, Pizarro, and Sancho Panza, among many others, totaling more than 80 roles, including also operetta, zarzuela, and oratorio ones. Mr. Amaro is also an archaeologist and archaeomusicologist with published works.
ALAN ANIBAL ASSISTANT CONDUCTOR, FIORELLO, THE OFFICER from Brazil, is a young, promising conductor of a refined and passionate music. Assistant Conductor to Maestro Jay Meetze at The Opera Company of Brooklyn, he is currently completing his Master's Degree in Conducting at Bard College, under the firm guidance of Harold Farberman and Leon Botstein. Mr. Aníbal was Assistant Conductor of Bard College Orchestra for the 2012 Season, have also served as Conducting Fellow at the Sao Paulo Municipal School in 2008. As a guest conductor, he has lead orchestras in Brazil, such as the Orchestra Experimental de Repertorio at the Sao Paulo Municipal Theater, as well as the Londrina State University Orchestra. He has also studied singing with Benito Maresca and Rufus Miller, having performed numerous roles in his native Brazil.
GAIL ARCHER - CHORUS MASTER - is an international concert organist, recording artist, choral conductor and lecturer who draws attention to composer anniversaries or musical themes with her annual recital series in New York City: An American Idyll, Liszt, Bach, Mendelssohn and Messiaen.In spring, 2013, the five-concert series is, "The Muses Voice: A Celebration of International Women Composers." Ms. Archer was the first American woman to play the complete works of Olivier Messiaen for the centennial of the composer's birth in 2008; Time-Out New York recognized the Messiaen cycle as "Best of 2008 " in Classical music and opera. Her recordings include Franz Liszt: A Hungarian Rhapsody, Bach, the Transcendent Genius, An American Idyll, A Mystic In the Making on Meyer-Media LLC and The Orpheus of Amsterdam: Sweelinck and his Pupils on CALA Records, London. Ms. Archer is college organist at Vassar College, and director of the music program at Barnard College, Columbia University where she conducts the Barnard-Columbia Chorus. She serves as director of the artist and young organ artist recitals at historic Central Synagogue, New York City.
ALEXANDER CHARLES BOYD - FIGARO Alexander Charles Boyd is a baritone from Purcellville, Virginia. He has been an Emerging Artist at Opera New Jersey, and an Apprentice Artist at Sarasota Opera. He took second place in the New York Lyric Opera Theater's 2012 Vocal Competition, and was invited to sing at Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall as a finalist in the 2012 Concert Festival Concerto Competition. He has participated in study programs such as Oberlin in Italy, Lied Austria, Interlochen Summer Arts Academy, and the Virginia Governor's School for the Arts. Based in New York, Alex studies with Mark Oswald. Upcoming: Sharpless in Madama Butterfly with Amore Opera, and Ford in Falstaff with Utopia Opera.
ANDRIA HELM ROSINA Mezzo-Soprano, has performed numerous operatic roles including, most notably, Prinz Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Bianca in The Rape of Lucretia, Mistress Quickly in Falstaff, and Fay Doyle in the Midwest premier of Lowell Lieberman's Miss Lonelyhearts, in which she "tore up the stage" (Cincinnati Enquirer). She has also performed as a soloist with the Omaha Symphony, North Carolina Master Chorale, and with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. She hails from Rocky Mount, NC and holds AD and MM degrees from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati (CCM) as well as a BMus degree from Lawrence University.
IVAN RIVERA TENOR was recently seen in Capitol Heights Lyric Opera's Amahal & The Night Visitors as Kasper. Opera Company of Brooklyn's Cosi fan tutte as Ferrando, Alcina (Handel) as Oronte, Monostatos in Magic Flute and Nemorino in The Elixir of Love. He's sung Don Ramiro in Cenerentola and Don Almaviva in the Barber of Seville with Capital Heights Lyric Opera, Ferrando in Opera Manhatttan's Cosi fan tutte, Don Basilio in the Marriage of Figaro with Opera Mission at the Bryant Park Festival, Don Almaviva in Atlantic Opera's production of Barber of Seville and Ferrando in the Underworld Productions' mounting of Cosi fan tutte at Symphony Space. Opera News applauded Mr. Rivera as "tight, deft tenor who handled Ferrando's music well." Other roles include Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Il Duca (Rigoletto), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Tybalt (Romeo et Juliette) and Tito (La Clemenza di Tito). Mr. Rivera was voted the "Audience Favorite" in the 2012 Nico Castel International MasterSinger Vocal Competition.
SCOTT TOMLINSON BASS has sung with the Santa Fe Opera, Metropolitan Opera Chorus, Dupage Opera Theater, Austin Lyric Opera, Opera in the Heights, Union Avenue Opera, Edmonton Opera, and Dayton Opera. He has worked with director Peter Sellars and conductors: Richard Buckley, Alan Gilbert, Miguel Harth-Bedoya, William Weibel, Timothy Vernon, Steven Crawford and Kostis Protopapas, among others. Roles performed: Sparafucile, the Commendatore, Elder Ott, the Priest in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk and der Pfleger, Jose Tripaldi in Ainadamar, Simone in Gianni Schicchi, Basilio, Superintendent Budd, Mozart's Dr. Bartolo, Carl Olson in Street Scene, Sarastro, Dr. Dulcamara, Sammy May in the world premiere of The Old Majestic and Prince Gremin in Eugene Onegin. Mr. Tomlinson received his M.M. at the University of Texas at Austin.
KRISTIN RENEE YOUNG - SOPRANO received her Master's degree from Boston University and studies with Sharon Daniels. Hailing from Philadelphia, Kristin graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Music from Barnard College of Columbia University, where she studied with Harolyn Blackwell. Recent and upcoming performances include a new opera by Errollyn Wallen with Center for Contemporary Opera; Carol in Tamandua with International Brazilian Opera Company; and Zerbinetta with the Ariadne Project. Other roles include First Flower in Gotham Chamber Opera's production of La Hija de Rappaccini, Despina from Così fan tutte, Tytania from A Midsummer Night's Dream, Mrs. Julian from Owen Wingrave, Cleopatra from Giulio Cesare, Constance from Dialogues of the Carmelites, and Pamina from The Magic Flute.
MING KWONG PIANIST Pianist/Coach Ming Kwong made his Opera Company Brooklyn debut in 2009. He is very active in the world of opera. In spring 2014, he will be joining the music staff at Portland Opera for their production of "Postcard from Morocco" by Dominic Argento. His past credits include an assistant coach position at Glimmerglass Opera, Tanglewood Music Center (assisting Maestro James Levine), and an apprenticeship with Florida Grand Opera for their 2008-2009 season. Ming Kwong holds a Masters degree in Piano Accompanying from Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of Warren Jones, and a Masters degree in Vocal Performance from New England Conservatory.
JAY MEETZE, ARTISTIC & MUSIC DIRECTOR Maestro Meetze (pronounced Mets) is lauded for his "passionate and undeniably impressive command of performances" and "sympathetic leadership of the forces of the OCB." (Opera News). His innovative vision is featured on Jeopardy quiz show, Good Morning America, MythBusters, CNN, National Public Radio, American Public Media, 1010WINS, Wall Street Journal, NY Times, NY Daily and NY Post newspapers, NY Magazine, Life, American Record Guide, Opera News, Crain's New York Business, Classical Singer Magazine, Frommer's and arts administration books. Metropolitan Opera's "Opera News" magazine named his Grammy-nominated CD on Albany Records "BEST OF THE YEAR" and "CRITIC'S CHOICE." Meetze, born in Flint, Michigan, received his M.M. in Orchestral Conducting at the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati.
