Wonderfully agile and graceful despite his massive size, Roscoe Fatty Arbuckle was one of the silent eras funniest and most popular slapstick comedians. In 1917, Arbuckle joined forces with rising star Buster Keaton to create a series of hilarious short comedies The combination of the sweetly silly Arbuckle and the stoically deadpan Keaton worked beautifully and resulted in comedic magic that still delights audiences. The Cinema is pleased to present rare 35mm prints of four of their greatest films: The Butcher Boy (1917), The Bell Boy (1918), Good Night, Nurse! (1918), and The Garage (1920)
USA, 1917-20, approx. 80 min., b/w
For over two decades Ben Model has served as resident silent film accompanist for The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Ben composes and improvises all his own scores and performs in a style that both evokes the silent era and reflects a contemporary (and younger) audience's appreciation of music and film scoring.
