E-i-E-i-Oy! - In Bed with the Farmer's Daughter
Vivien Straus (writer and performer) grew up on her family's dairy in Marshall. She ran away from the farm (she couldn't really marry a cow and the gene pool in the area was rather small) to become an actress.
E-i-E-i-Oy! -- which Vivien summarizes as "Jerseys, Jerks & Jews -- is an "85% true autobiographical account" of her adventures in the 1970s in San Francisco where she stumbles home with a Czech refugee who stays the night and then refuses to leave."
It's a one-woman coming-of-age tale filled with a disapproving dad, hippies, heifers, and steaming potato dumplings. Show runs about one (1) hour, and will be followed by local foods reception.
This Dance Palace event is a benefit for "Field Farm Studies", a joint project of Marin Organic and MALT, both of which Ellen Straus (Vivien's mother) helped launch.
A previous incarnation of this E-i-E-i-OY! -- then named "Getting it Wrong" -- played to standing-room-only crowds at the 2002 San Francisco Fringe Festival, and to a full house at the Dance Palace in 2003.
Vivien has been in numerous films including "Peggy Sue Got Married," "Thirteen Days," "Heaven and Earth" and "One Good Cop." Her television credits include recurring roles in "Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide," "Capital News" and "Freddy's Nightmares" (where she died twice). She's been in over 30 plays and in the NYC sketch comedy group, "BOB," and too many other things to list.
When not writing or acting, she manages the Straus Home Ranch, leads cheese tours at Cowgirl Creamery, and has created the popular CheeseTrail.org map & app.
