sub-Rosa Benefit Performance: Last Show Before New York!
This May, sub-Rosa, choreographed by Cheronne Wong, debuts at Joyce SoHo in New York City, and with airfare, food, equipment rentals, and more for a crew of 7 Seattle artists, we need your help please. The evening will include a live performance plus tunes by DJ Dead Air, a raffle, and post show dancing.
In sub-Rosa, Wong creates "a world of disorienting shadow-play, nervous double-takes and cryptic messages so enticingly delivered, you wouldn't really want them to be decoded." The Seattle Times.
Wong spins "layers of personae and mystery with an almost spiritual kick... [Her] skill in group choreography is as precise and graceful as her detailed movements..." The News Tribune.
The full evening multi-media work premiered in Seattle in September 2007 at the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center. The creation of sub-Rosa was funded by the Bossak/Heilbron Charitable Foundation, 4Culture and the Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, City of Seattle.
Directed by Seattle-based choreographer Cheronne Wong, performers Christina Guillette, Danny Herter, Naho Shioya and Kade Stotler explore their outer spy personas, progressively shedding layers to unmask their true identities. Through inventive movement and daring partnering, this powerful, theatrical work of motion, sound, and vision investigates covert communication on a global and personal level. This multimedia environment is filled with electric dancing, an otherworldly sound score by composer Amy Denio, sculptures by NYC fine artist Dave Stevenson, and visual landscapes by John D. Pai and bold lighting by Melinda M. Short.
Help us bring this world of intrigue to the New York stage.
