Cruise Boom, a new documentary film set in Sitka, is a portrait of a community dealing with the possibilities and perils of a spike in tourism. Its about a town facing a situation it did not plan for, working together to make it work, provoking questions relevant in Southeast Alaska and beyond about how a community guides its future, how much tourism is enough, who benefits from the industry and what it means to be a visitor.
Created by Ellen Frankenstein and Atman Mehta. Frankenstein has directed and collaborated on documentary films including Carved from the Heart, Tracing Roots and Eating Alaska, broadcast nationally on public television and used in campuses and communities.
