Firelight Trio at Edinburgh FC / EFC
Firelight Trio - Gavin Marwick, Ruth Morris, Phil Alexander - play European folk music that is evocative, inventive, and endlessly exciting. Driving fiddle and stately nyckelharpa meet deep accordion grooves in a rich tapestry of lively Swedish polskas and Scottish reels, lilting French waltzes, toe-tapping klezmer, dazzling original tunes and more.
Gavin is one of Scotland's top fiddlers, seen in the pit at Edinburgh's Lyceum Theatre playing for panto or in a folk club somewhere 'over there'; definitely a talent that has lifted many a gig. Ruth (nyckelharpa) has played at EFC in the past with this quite complex and beautiful traditional Swedish instrument. Well, it's technically more complex than a lot of instruments used in traditional music. Phil is a renowned accordionist and pianist, band leader with Moishes Bagel and collaborates regularly with folk and jazz musicians around the UK and beyond. He's also a British Academy research fellow at the University of Edinburgh, where he studies historical Scottish-Jewish musical interactions. His book 'Sounding Jewish in Berlin: klezmer and the contemporary city' was published (Oxford University Press) in early 2021.
A very pleasant evening in prospect then, just sitting by the Firelight.

Accessibility
UCC has relatively easy access for wheelchair users. There's a portable ramp to enable the wheelchair to get past 3-4 steps from the street to the main door. Once inside everything is on the same level (ground floor) - performance room, bar and disabled-friendly toilets.
