Banchi Hanuse Canada 2023 1h 29m Festival - Local Sightings Film Festival 2023: Feature Films
About (Banchi Hanuse, Victoria, BC, 2023, 89 min, in English)
A portrait of a young Siksika woman and the deep bonds between her family in the golden plains of Blackfoot Territory, Before the Sun follows Native relay rider Logan Red Crow as she prepares for one of the most dangerous competitive sports in the world: bareback relay racing. In a show of bravado daredevilry, riders must vault from horse to horse in short, exhilarating races.
Logan is a champion in the making, with skill, an elite group of horses, and sheer grit. Grounded by her loving family and the foundation of living on her ancestral lands, Logan is primed for victory.
Before the Sun offers a beautiful twofold viewing experience, as it alternates between serenity and suspense; between a lyrical immersion in rural life, and thrilling race footage. As Logan pushes toward her goal, the connections between animal and human, family and community, ancestral tradition and contemporary life are profound and lasting.

Accessibility
Ticketing, concessions, cinemas, restrooms, and our public edit lab are located on Northwest Film Forum's ground floor, which is wheelchair accessible. We have a limited number of assistive listening devices available for programs hosted in our larger theater, Cinema 1. These devices are maintained by the Technical Director, and can be requested at the ticketing and concessions counter.
The Forum does NOT have assistive devices for the visually impaired, and is not (yet) a scent-free venue. Our commitment to increasing access for our audiences is ongoing, and we welcome all public input on the subject!
