A Conversation with J. B. MacKinnon
Join us for a one-hour discussion between J. B. MacKinnon, journalist and author of The Day the World Stops Shopping (in addition to The 100-mile Diet) and Rebecca Rockefeller, co-author of Buy Nothing, Get Everything, and one of the founders of the world-wide Buy Nothing Project. After the conversation, there will be a question and answer period, and an opportunity for book signing.
The Day the World Stops Shopping: How Ending Consumerism Saves the Environment and Ourselves envisions a time when we reduce our consumerism by 25%. MacKinnon tracks this possibility through the world-what it would mean in our lives and the lives of others, how it would effect us, how it could save the planet. His in-depth and wide-ranging research encompasses consuming habits from blue jeans to electricity. And he shows how short a time it took us to get to where we are now, and how we could dial it back to make a huge impact on climate change.
J. B. MacKinnon is an award-winning journalist whose work has appeared in the New Yorker, National Geographic, and the Atlantic, as well as the Best American Science and Nature Writing anthologies. He is also the author of four books of nonfiction, including the bestselling Plenty (with Alisa Smith), widely recognized as a catalyst of the local foods movement. He lives in Vancouver, Canada.
This event is made possible by a City of Bainbridge Island Cultural Arts Grant but your donations will help us further the mission of ReFashion Bainbridge to provide outreach and education around fashion, sustainability, and how we empower ourselves to make better choices for our community and planet.
