Downsizing follow the couple Maria and Olav's struggle to become parents in a reality where the international community has agreed on reducing the planet's human population. Like everyone else, they must go through a lengthy application process in order to obtain a permission to become biological parents. They are both stunned when the board's response is negative. However, Neither Olav or Maria is willing to give up on their dream of having a child.
