Eng House Tour + Summer Social
Celebrate summer with Docomomo US/WEWA! We invite you to a social gathering at the Jimmie and Betty Eng residence in Seattle's Beacon Hill neighborhood. Enjoy cocktails and appetizers in the backyard and bar (aka Shangri-La 66 Lounge). Tour the home. Mingle with fellow Modernistas. Meet Docomomo US/WEWA board members. Built in 1966 and designed by architect Jimmie Eng as the family home for himself, wife Betty, and their three children, the house is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and Washington Heritage Register. It is a remarkably intact mid-century modern house with mature landscaping. Our hosts are Erik Birkeland and Jeffrey Cook, the second owners and current stewards of this special property. Back in January 2016, they hosted us in their bar (Shangri-La 66 Lounge) and Jeffrey presented a fabulous slide lecture on Tiki history. This event is a fundraiser for Docomomo US/WEWA. Your support (through the purchase of a $50 ticket) helps us with our mission to raise awareness and appreciation of Modern design in Western Washington. WHEN: Saturday, August 26, 2023 | 4 - 8 pm (brief program around 5:15 PM) WHERE: The house is in Seattle's Beacon Hill neighborhood. The address will be shared once event tickets have been purchased through brownpapertickets.com. COST: $50 (plus $4.49 service fee) per person. Maximum four tickets per purchase. This event has limited capacity. Get your tickets today! No waitlist or ticket sales at the door. All funds raised go toward future programs and advocacy efforts. Thanks for your support! Docomomo US/WEWA's 2023 programs are partially funded by a 4Culture Preservation Sustained Support Grant.
