About the Presenters:
Joleen Winther Hughes is the founder, principal and fearless leader of Hughes Media Law Group. With experience that spans the entertainment and digital media world, Joleen started HMLG specifically to support entrepreneurs, burgeoning media properties and service providers who push the boundaries of media and technology. As a longtime entrepreneur herself, Joleen understands the trials and tribulations of starting and running a successful business. In addition to fronting HMLG, Joleen is a popular lecturer and panelists for several national and international media and technology organizations including Digital Hollywood, the American Bar Association and the Application Developer's Alliance. Before dreaming up what is now HMLG, Joleen was Senior Counsel at RealNetworks, Inc., where she worked with major sports leagues, media companies, television networks, movie studios and record labels to create the first on-line consumer content subscription service and was responsible for developing Real's casual gaming licensing strategy. Prior to her legal career, Joleen owned a successful artist management and production company during the height of the 90's Seattle music explosion working with music legends like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains (just to name-drop a few!).
Mackenzie McAninch has been in the music business for over ten years as booking agent, promoter, band manager, writer and owner of the nationally recognized and award-winning blog Randomville.com. In 2012, Mackenzie sold Randomville and became the booking agent for Seattle band Ayron Jones and the Way, quickly helping the band get shows with artists like Robert Cray and landing festivals like Bumbershoot. In 2013, he became the band's manager and also began working as the booking agent for the Seattle band Funky 2 Death. 2014 is starting out great for Mackenzie. In just three months, he has helped steer his band clients to collaborations with The Seattle Seahawks and Sounders organizations, performances with the likes of BB King, and nationally-broadcasted shows on NPR. Mackenzie is currently spending much of his time planning his bands' upcoming national touring schedules and music licensing projects.
