WARIAZONE, with post-film Q&A with co-director Terje Toomistu (Doc Night)
Wariazone is an independent documentary by Terje Toomistu and Kiwa which discursively explores the notion of transgender and the relations between gender identity and freedom in Indonesia. Through the voices of around 40 waria (transgender women) it raises questions about the politicization of morality and religion in the country with the world's largest Muslim population. Traditionally, variations in gender identity have held a special position in many Indonesian cultures, but today warias have been relegated to an outlaw zone on the outskirts of the modern Indonesian society.
Following the film will be a Q&A with the co-director of "Wariazone," Terje Toomistu.
