ASCE Seattle Section Ports and Harbors Committee Monthly Dinner
Speaker: Tom Rizzo, General Manager, Shell Puget Sound Refinery, Anacortes, WA
In his 33 year career, Tom has held a number of positions in Shell's Manufacturing (oil refining and Chemical), Strategy, Corporate Consulting, and Projects & Technology organizations in a variety of locations. Tom represents Shell on the American Fuels and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) Issues Committee and on the Western States Petroleum Association (WSPA) Northwest Operating Committee. He holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree and Master of Business Administration Degree (Finance), both from Washington University (St. Louis).
Topic: North American Shale Oil Boom
Tom will provide an overview of the various shale oil regions in North America and how shale oil is transforming the US refining industry. Proposed transportation methods for getting the crude oil to refineries in the US with emphasis on the Pacific Northwest will be presented. Included in this discussion will be a look at proposed pipelines and their potential impact on shipping crude over water. He will also talk about moving crude oil by train with emphasis on the current focus on crude rail safety.
